Last Weekend, Midweek matches, and the news

Okay: Liverpool break Chelsea's unbeaten in the league at home streak. Anyone surprised? Liverpool is on form and looks to be serious title contenders this season.

Crowd trouble at Sunderland-Newcastle. Anyone surprised? If you had to predict crowd trouble at one matchup in the EPL, wouldn't this be it?

Spurs clean house and poach 'Arry from my Pompey. Anyone surprised that Spurs cleaned house? Anyone surprised that 'Arry left Pompey? Again? He's getting crucified on the Pompey boards!

ManU made Everton look like a pub team in the first half. 85% of the possession at one point, but only one goal to show for it. Everton showed up in the second half, and I thought deserved the win. Still, a very entertaining match, and it proves the adage that the only stat that matters is the score.

Midweek matchups? Anyone skipping work to watch? Liverpool-Pompey is at 4 Eastern. Be interesting to see if they have a manager in place or if Tony Adams or Joe Jordan is told they are finishing the season.

I'm skipping sleep to watch the big3 (especially Hull!)

Agree about Everton , v spunky showing second half - you can have the fat Yak back....

So on the boards what are they saying as regards real reason(s) 'Arry left Fratton Park? His wife was expecting retirement as next move. He said the whole deal came out of the blue yet admitted elsewhere he could have joined 'em 18 months(?) ago when Jol was feeling the heat.

At least you know donkey Adams won't be joing Rednapp at the Lane. Scant consolation though I expect.

the boards are most unkind to 'Arry right now. The speculation is that the club is about to go into administration and that all of the good players have already been sold to pay the debt. That's what he's talking about when he talks about the money problems. I believe he, unrealistically, thought we would break the bank to put together a squad that could compete in four competitions this year. Nobody in their right mind would do that. When this opportunity to get out came, he took it. He thinks the situation at Tottenham is so much better than at Pompey. I'm not sure I agree, but at least Spurs cleaned house and will let him run it. He'll be allowed to sink or swim based on his decisions and not someone else's, a luxury not afforded to Ramos.

Tony Adams is now the leading person for the permanent job. I'm okay with that, for now. I want to see how the players respond to him, and more importantly, what he is allowed to do and does in the next couple of transfer windows. I'm real anxious about the financial state of the club. Should be interesting times.

I would love to skip work but if I do, I do not have an excuse to tell my boss. Which is like talking to myself anyway. What has been nice so far this season is the few midweek matchups to deal with. You never seem to keep up with them when they take place and then you feel lost. At least on the weekend I can head out, set the DVR and then watch it at before the weekends done. This is especially important with the schedule the way it's been with so many odd start times and Sunday having more action then Saturday. Help, I know I'm getting old but didn't we just finish finish with Euro 2008 and did Beckham really play in the MLS or did I miss something? What's a normal fan to do. I'm ready for a winter break except the EPL does not have one. Can't all games be moved until the American election is over with? Who you voting for AP and whats the update on coming to Chicago?

DVR's are God's gift to Football fans who live in the wrong timezone. I'll be skipping work Wednesday afternoon. I'll be the only Pompey supporter in a pub full of Scousers, which might be kinda fun!

The football season stops for no one, not even GoldenBalls himself. BTW, he's going to Spurs, not AC Milan. I too would love to see more regular action on Saturday, but Europe beckons.

I'm a libertarian, which means I'll vote for Bob Barr. Obama is a socialist, McCain is senile old man. Neither one of them will move us towards less government, more freedom, lower taxes, and no more foreign military adventures. Whichever one is elected will only do what Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid allow them to do, especially if they get super-majorities in both Houses.

I'll be in Chicago on Tuesday, December 16. Pompey hosts Herenveen on Wednesday and travels to Bolton on Saturday for a 9 am central start. I'm up for either. We could meet somewhere and watch a few matches Saturday morning before I have to get to Midway for my flight home. I would love to go someplace with some good atmosphere. The only place in Atlanta that has any atmosphere charges $10 cover. The free place is pretty lame. I think I still have your cell #. I'll call you when I get to town and we can arrange a meeting place and time.

Best place for you to watch the game is The Globe Pub. Beckham himself has been there to watch a match. Check out the website. I can get you out to the airport, if it isn't snowing that is!!!

EPLNFL, have you ever taken pics in the Globe? Or for that matter I want to see Atlanta Pompey in the pub taunting the bandwaggoner red stealers with chants (I'll send a few topical ones) before the kick-off lol.

Break open your piggy bank, spend a few Yen and fly in to meet us. I'll buy at the Globe and even take you to see the U-Boat at the Museum of Science and Industry, it's a great exhibit.

The yen is super strong amidst the mayhem and we're not in peak season flight wise so I could do it. Work commitments are the only hindrance. One day I will. Her indoors permitting o'course...

ilgriff: I'll be taunting the Scousers here in Atlanta tomorrow when we play at Anfield. We play at Bolton the weekend I'll be in Chicago. I'll taunt them too.

Send me some good topical chants to sing tomorrow. I'll even take video, although it will be a solo chorus.

Not altogether topical but what the hell:

Spot the Scouser
Spot the scouser
Spot the scouser in the kop
Spot the scouser in the kop

(Sung to: Bread of Heaven or Cwm Rhondda)

He's Fat, He Dives,
He Tarmacs People's Drives,
Robbie Keane, Robbie Keane

After Pompey wrap up the points:

You are pants, out of form
Kiss the premiership goodbye
And dont be afraid of the championship
At the end of May there is a golden tie
with a sweet silver prize
which goes to Hull

Walk On to League 1
Carry On to League 2
All your dreams are toast

Go Down Go down
Even with Gerrard
And You'll never win again
You'll never win again

(To the tune of You'll Never Walk Again)

You're shit, hanging from a stick
You're shit, hanging from a stick
You're shit, hanging from a stick
You're shit, hanging from a stick
Repeat........
You're shit hanging from a stick
You're shit hanging from a stick

And on and on and on and on............
(To the tune of Go west by the Pet shop Boys)

Weren't you originally planning to go to Bolton away A.P. ?

Yes. I was a chaperone for a school trip to London that week and had special permission to miss my duties that day to travel to Bolton. Unfortunately some little piss-ant kid dropped out of the trip, which dropped us below the number for chaperones, and I was axed from the trip. Can't afford the trip on my own right now, but things are looking up for a trip next March. We'll see.

Thanks for the tunes. I'll try a few of them out tomorrow afternoon.
