Chicago shows America can do soccer right!

I do not know how many people in this community had a chance to watch the LA v. Fire game from Toyota Park last night in Chicago. It was everything a sporting event should be a capacity crowd, on their feet, a great night weather wise and lots of action on the field. To those who say America just can't understand soccer and will treat it like a MLB game I hope you had a opportunity to see the game. The TV crew noted it right away that the fans, as opposed to a recent game for the USMNT that they had viewed at Toyota Park, were part of a great backdrop for the game. I've commented elsewhere on the problems with the USMNT and the fan reaction, but the Fire do it right. Fireworks, goal celebrations, special fan sections, lots of give aways, a new Stadium, better then average sporting event food and special events at every game. It's a great time for a sports fan period. I've been out there 3 times in September alone.

Chicago is a special place in many ways that make soccer popular and much like it is elsewhere in the world. Chicago is a city that is a considered a "home" town for both the Mexican and Polish National teams. Both have drawn over 40,000 people for exhibition games in Chicago. We have a large ethnic population and can turn out large crowds for Irish, German, Italian, or Greek teams in addition. What the Fire has done in Chicago should be a model for all the MLS. While it maybe hard to find the same ethnic fan base in Utah or Kansas City, certainly in places like LA, New York, Boston, Miami, Houston, and Philly, to just name a few places the Chicago model can work.

Yes, America can do it right, but it maybe a Blue State thing( Thanks to Kartik)
